City Club members and guests were treated to hearing firsthand from City of Bend and Regional leaders about future plans to improve and enhance transportation and transit in the region. The featured speakers, Tammy Baney, Executive Director of the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) and Eric King, Bend City Manager, described upcoming projects as well as financing challenges for the region’s road and transit networks and how these efforts will link up to improve your travel options across town and across the region.
The 2020s will see major developments in transportation and transit in the region. The City of Bend is placing a bond initiative on the May ballot to fund capital projects over the decade that prioritizes improvements for east-west travel and pedestrian and bike safety. In addition, COIC is updating its Master Plan for Transit and rolling out new initiatives to be funded by the State’s new transit tax.
