What members are saying

"City Club has a powerful civic impact on the Central Oregon community. At the City of Bend, many of the topics of interest that we see rising to importance for our community are taken on and expertly guided through these forums, providing an opportunity for education and dialogue about some of the most complex issues our region is facing." Eric King City of Bend star star star star star "Cultivating civility and respect for others and their perspectives (even if we disagree) in today’s all-too-divisive world is needed more now than ever. That’s exactly why City Club is important: so our community can gather together to listen, learn and understand all voices. Conversation does indeed create community – which leads to a kinder, more thoughtful world."

“I’ve been a City Club member since 2011 and find great value in continuing to learn, listen and engage on a range of important topics affecting our community. Further, I’ve been proud to assist in formalizing the Tools of Civility to ensure these forums and subsequent conversations and dialogue continue to be respectful, productive and inviting to all who wish to participate.”

“City Club of Central Oregon cherishes dialog. While ‘debate’ has its word origin in beating (down) as to win the argument, the word ‘dialog’ references creating meaning through conversation. Both have their place in society. But when we drink solely from today’s mainstream media fountain, we can be drowned in debate points causing our stance to become argumentative, angry, and at times righteous. City Club gives pause to understand others, to explore points of view, and to build collective understanding. City club has been a community asset from its inception.”
Stephen K. Hacker Founding board member
“The more we all share life’s key information together, the more we will all support our common future” That is what City Club does for all of us.

Since relocating to Central Oregon, I have found City Club to be a valuable resource for networking and learning more about topics that matter in this region. I would invite others to attend City Club’s forums. The more perspectives we can engage in these community conversations, the better!
