First in a series of five candidate forums for positions on the Oregon ballot for the primary election, the Republican candidates for Secretary of State joined us to share their platforms. Candidates included:

- Kim Thatcher
City Club partnered with the League of Women Voters of Deschutes County to bring these forums to a livestream format. Democracy keeps going and civic engagement remains essential!
The Oregon Secretary of State works to maximize voter participation, is a watchdog for public spending, makes it easier to do business in Oregon, and preserves and promotes Oregon history.
In addition to opening and closing remarks, candidates answered questions regarding their qualifications, priorities, election security, environmental issues, as well as plans to assist small businesses in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Dave W. Stauffer is an environmental engineer. He is also a licensed attorney. Prior to his work as an engineer, Stauffer worked as a securities analyst for the Oregon Division of Finance and Corporate Securities.
Kim Thatcher is currently a Republican state senator from Oregon’s Senate District 13, having won election in 2014. Prior to becoming a senator, she was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives from House District 25.
