Democracy keeps going and civic engagement remains essential! Second in our series of five candidate forums, some Democratic candidates for Secretary of State joined us to share their platforms. Candidates included:
- Shemia Fagan
- Mark D. Hass
- Jamie McLeod-Skinner
City Club partnered with the League of Women Voters of Deschutes County to bring these forums to a livestream format.
Candidates answered questions regarding their qualifications, their priorities, voter redistricting and the popular vote, campaign contribution limits, state lands, navigating the diversity of Oregon, as well as plans to assist small businesses in the aftermath of COVID-19.

Shemia Fagan is a civil rights attorney and a Democratic member of the Oregon Senate, representing District 24 starting in 2019. She previously represented state House District 51 from 2013 to 2017.
Mark D. Hass
has represented District 14 in the Oregon State Senate since 2008. He served in the Oregon House from 2001 to 2007. Prior to serving in the legislature, he spent 20 years as journalist, including 16 years at Portland’s KATU News.
Jamie McLeod-Skinner is an attorney, small business owner, and natural resource consultant. She serves as an elected Board Member for the Jefferson County Education Service District (ESD) and as appointed Member At Large for the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB).
