Democracy keeps going and civic engagement remains essential! Third in a series of five candidate forums, a portion of Democratic candidates for the 2nd Congressional District joined us to share their platforms. Candidates included:

  • Nick (Nik) L. Heuertz
  • John P. Holm
  • Alex Spenser
  • Chris Vaughn

City Club partnered with the League of Women Voters of Deschutes County to bring these forums to a livestream format.

Candidates answered questions regarding their qualifications, their priorities, affordable housing, healthcare and women’s rights, campaign contribution limits, national voting procedures, as well as COVID-19’s impact on economies.

Nick (Nik) L. Heuertz was a small business owner for more than twenty years. He has also served as vice president of a non-profit and various political campaigns, learning the ropes of campaigning and authoring legislative proposals.

John P. Holm is a Democratic Strategist with 15 years of experience. He has held a variety of roles including a licensed realtor, small business owner and member of the Grocers’ Union.

Jack Howard served as a member of the Union County Board of Commissioners from 2015-2019. His career experience also includes working as a writer, attorney, and educator.

Alex Spenser is a co-founder of the Klamath Force for Peaceful Action and a founder of The Women’s March. Her career experience includes work as a writer, performance coach, legal secretary, construction worker and copperwright.

Chris Vaughn is a working-class candidate. While in college, he served as a student lobbyist, working with other delegates to lobby the Iowa Board of Regents and Legislature on behalf of all Iowa public college students.
